Global Environment Fund
A
pioneering private equity fund that invests in sustainable forestry, water
infrastructure, and clean technology projects worldwide, with a special
emphasis on developing countries. The Global Environment Fund (GEF) was
founded by two World Wildlife Fund fellows, Jeff Leonard and John Earhart.
GEF also provided support to the Investor Responsibility Research Center’s
pioneering Environmental Information Service, which LGA founder Jonathan
Naimon directed in the early 1990s.
Shorebank Pacific
An
Oregon-based bank specializing in lending to businesses that take the
environment into account. Like Light Green Advisors, Shorebank invests in
natural resources and heavy industry businesses where environmental progress
can make a difference. Funded in part by Ecotrust

, Shorebank Pacific is a subsidiary of Chicago-based Shorebank, a pioneer in
community investing in the US.

Collaborative
An
innovative effort by nationally recognized chefs to link producers and
consumers of locally grown quality foods (from the farms and ranches to the
chefs and the restaurant patrons) and thus enhance markets for more
sustainable grown foods.
Mountain Lion
Foundation
A
foundation focused on preserving the integrity of mountain lion habitat in
the US and preventing the extirpation of mountain lions from the twelve
states where there are viable populations. LGA founder Jonathan Naimon was
appointed to the Mountain Lion Foundation board in 2003.
Pacific Northwest
Pollution Prevention Resource Center
A
regional nonprofit group that pioneered pollution prevention as a strategy
for pro-actively addressing pollution threats from numerous industries and
individual activities. The US EPA has now adopted pollution prevention as a
centerpiece of its attempts to encourage environmental improvement.
Progressive Policy Institute
A
national think tank funded by the Democratic Leadership Council that
has sponsored
several congressional roundtables
on developing national policies to
address climate change. The Roundtable
included environmental groups such as Environmental Defense Fund, Natural
Resources Defense Council, and the Center for Clean Air Policy. In 1999 the
Progressive Policy Institute also published a synthesis
of market-based policies to combat climate change
co-authored by LGA founder Jonathan
Naimon and Progressive Policy Institute
Environmental Director Debra Knopman.
Rose
Foundation Environmental Fiduciary Project
An
innovative California-based foundation that has been involved in
several important a variety of market-based initiatives
including a recent SEC petition to close some
of the gaps in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) that allow a
variety of environmental liabilities of public companies to be concealed
from investors in securities filings. The Rose Foundation also manages
programs on community investing, labor issues, pension funds,
in addition to the environment. Its
Environmental Fiduciary book provides trustees of environmental foundations,
public funds, and other organizations
concerned about environmental threats to our quality of life with
a clear description of many connections
between fiduciary responsibility and environmental factors.
Trade Association
Social Investment Forum
A
national trade association of asset managers interested in social or
environmental responsibility. Light Green Advisors is a member of the Social
Investment Forum and a sponsor of its bi-annual Trends in Responsible
Investing report. The Forum has good basic information on retail socially
responsible investing; however, at present it has little information on
separate account management and other alternatives to high cost mutual funds
that make up the bulk of the environmentally responsible investment
universe.
